Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs) at Central Vermont Medical center work under the general direction of an RN/LPN to provide indirect nursing care for patients and emotional support to patients and family members.

Licensed Nursing Assistant - LNA Level I

Current Openings: Woodridge Rehabilitation & Nursing
Requirements: No experience necessary. Candidates who are in an LNA training program may be hired into this role pending completion of course and licensure requirements.
Base Salary: Starting at $14.61 (plus applicable evening, night and weekend shift differentials)
Shifts: Day and Night Shifts Available

Under the general direction of a unit RN/LPN, the LNA provides indirect nursing care for patients and emotional support to patients and family members.

Licensed Nursing Assistant - LNA Level II

Current Openings: Woodridge Rehabilitation & Nursing
Requirements (Woodridge): At least one year of experience as an LNA. Will provide training in skill levels outlined below.
Requirements (Hospital): At least one year of experience as an LNA at CVMC.
Base Salary: Starting at $15.34 (plus applicable evening, night and weekend shift differentials)
Shifts: Day and Night Shifts Available

Additional LNA duties specific to Medical-Surgical and Woodridge include:

  • Apical pulses
  • Point of care testing, including glucose checks/finger sticks, urine dips, and other POCT as specified by department policy
  • Bladder scanning
  • Applying protective dressings
  • Removing foley catheters
  • Removing peripheral intravenous devices (excluding PICC or Midline)
  • Applying/removing sequential compression devices, TED stockings, and ace wraps
  • Transferring oxygen from wall unit to portable, increasing or decreasing rate of flow at nurse’s direction
  • Nail care in diabetic patients
  • Instilling refresh (saline) eye drops and ear wax softeners (Debrox) per standing order or nurse’s direction
  • Performing 12-lead electrocardiograms
  • May also be credentialed for phlebotomy by completing course of training 

Additional duties specific to ICU/Critical Care and the Emergency Department include all items ilisted above, as well as:

  • Restocking and cleaning of IV carts and room carts
  • Setting up for sterile procedures
  • Assists in cleaning and dressing wounds
  • Assists provider in procedures such as pelvic exams or lumbar punctures
  • Obtains urine specimens for urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests
  • Obtains pharyngeal swabs for Strep A testing
  • Applies and discontinues cardiac monitors, telemetry monitoring, automated blood pressure cuffs, and pulse oximeters at the direction of the nurse
  • Applies splints and other orthopedic devices as indicated/directed.  May perform crutch teaching as directed.

The LNA-in-Training program is a paid, full-time position for candidates committed to successful completion of the LNA course and receipt of certification and licensure through the State of Vermont.

While in class, LNA-in-Training participants are employed full-time at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing, where they serve under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse, and perform indirect services for the residents, assist in unit function, and give emotional support for patients and families.

Successful candidates will possess a high school diploma/equivalent or be working toward it, exhibit an ability to follow instructions, and be willing to learn.

LNA Nurse Extern Program

Central Vermont Medical Center offers an LNA Nurse Extern program to nursing students who are currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program and have completed junior year (or will be finishing by May 2019) of their schooling.  We will be accepting applications through March 25, 2019. Interviews will be conducted the first two weeks in April with offers of employment made the first week of May. Those hired into the program would have an anticipated start date of May 20, 2019 and must have a Vermont LNA license at that time.

This program allows nursing students in between their junior and senior years an experience working directly with an RN and learning in an acute care setting. LNA Externs will be expected to work as an LNA with the primary nurse, but can be engaged in RN tasks in a capacity/role pre-determined by the RN as long as the LNA Extern is directly supervised by the RN when practice is greater than the scope of an LNA.

Residents of this program will be hired into a Per Diem, temporary position for the 10-week program with an end date of July 27, 2019. If interested, participants would be eligible to obtain per diem employment as an LNA at the conclusion of the program. These positions will be rotating positions with approximately 50% of the time spent on day shift and 50% of the time spent on night shift. We are hiring to various units of the Hospital.
