Coordinated, Compassionate Care for Seriously Ill Patients

The Department of Palliative and Spiritual Care at CVMC enhances quality of life by relieving pain and other physical, psychological and spiritual symptoms in the population of patients who have advanced illness.

Our Palliative and Spiritual Care team (photo above) work together with the rest of your medical team to maximize your quality of life at all stages of your illness. We assist patients and families with complicated medical decisions around the goals of a patient’s care. This may include recommending medications or other treatments to manage the symptoms associated with your illness.

Palliative care helps ensure that patients receive the highest level of coordinated care possible and is available at any time after diagnosis of a serious illness and can be used while receiving curative treatment.

Spiritual Care

All patients and their families at CVMC (even those not receiving palliative care) are encouraged to speak with the Spiritual Care Counselor about the spiritual issues surrounding hospitalization and illness.

These services are available for people of all faiths, and also for those with no religious affiliation or practices. When the Spiritual Care Counselor is not on-site or on-call, every effort is made to provide coverage by clergy from the area.

The Spiritual Care Counselor is available to all patients Monday through Thursday, from 11am to 4pm. If you would like to meet with her please call 802-371-4376 or ask your nurse to page her.

Catholic rites are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Chapel at CVMC

A chapel is located on the second floor of the hospital. It is a quiet sanctuary for reflection, meditation and prayer.
